Counseling

BCS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers free and confidential money and debt management counseling. For your convenience, our certified counselors are available to assist you:

  • In person
  • Online
  • By phone

In Person

We are located at 505 E.Huntland Drive, and are happy to accept clients on a walk-in basis. Business hours for this location are as follows:

Monday through Friday: 8 am to 6 pm

An appointment is required to meet with a counselor at all other locations. Please call 888.880.6337 to schedule an appointment at our office.

A certified counselor will spend about an hour with you, reviewing your financial situation. Together you will develop a spending plan (also known as a budget) and discuss your debt management options.

Your counselor may suggest several possible courses of action, including a Debt Management Plan (DMP). Through a DMP, BCS acts as a neutral third party to negotiate payment arrangements with your creditors. Many creditors offer concessions such as reduced interest rates, stopping late and over the limit fees and often lower payments. BCS recognizes that the Debt Management Plan is not the right choice for everyone. However, we believe that educating consumers about their financial options gives them the tools they need to make the best possible decisions regarding financial obligations.

When you meet with a counselor, please have available:

  • Your most recent credit card statements (no more than 90 days old, please)
  • A list of your monthly household income
  • A working knowledge of your household expenses
